Crisis Communications for Nonprofits: Internal, Public & Social Media Considerations – Offered by the Delaware Community Foundation

Date: February 24, 2026 | 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM (Virtual) | Register HERE
Facilitator: Nancy Dibert, CEO and Co-Founder, Epic Marketing Consultants Corporation

As a nonprofit leader or communicator, you know that in challenging times, your mission and the trust of your community are on the line. This session is designed to empower you to leverage social media not merely as a broadcast tool, but as a vital lifeline for building stronger, more resilient communities before, during, and after a crisis.  Nancy will move beyond generic communication plans to focus on the unique demands and opportunities of social media crisis management in the nonprofit sector through the following learning objectives:

Post-Crisis Resilience: Meeting the moment doesn’t end when the immediate crisis passes. Nancy will examine the critical post-crisis phase, showing you how to assess the impact on your community and donor trust. She will identify practical tools for analyzing social media data to understand public sentiment and leverage the event as an opportunity to reinforce trust and build deeper community relationships.

Pre-Crisis Preparedness: Nancy will help you meet the moment before it arrives through robust, mission-aligned policies and plans. Learn the importance of crafting clear escalation protocols, establishing a social media decision tree, and creating event-specific response plans that anticipate everything from service delivery failures and internal policy missteps to external events like natural disasters or funding shortfalls.

During the Crisis: In a crisis, community trust is paramount. Nancy will review the importance of acting decisively, leading with empathy and transparency, and delivering clear, consistent messaging to your stakeholders. Learn from real-world examples the importance of balancing speed with the imperative for accuracy, and how maintaining the human connection defines your nonprofit’s work in times of uncertainty.
