Back to Archive

Season 5, Episode 1: In the season opening episode, Stuart Comstock-Gay sits down with New York Times bestselling author Erin Gruwell talk about how she learned to create a community of writers, starting back when she was an English teacher in California. They discuss how Gruwell brought her students, the “Freedom Writers,” together and now, over 20 years later, Gruwell continues to teach others how to create communities through storytelling, writing, listening to one another and giving light in dark places. The two also get into her latest book, Dear Freedom Writer, the featured book from this year’s Building Opportunity Keynote and Book Circles.

In the DCF’s Building Opportunity in Delaware Podcast, President & CEO Stuart Comstock-Gay interviews people from around Delaware about how we can focus on the importance of community and how we can pass the mic to the next generation.
