Young philanthropists award $15K to Kent & Sussex children’s mental health programs
The Next Generation – Southern Delaware (Next Gen South) has awarded $15,000 in grants to organizations serving the mental health needs of youth in Kent and Sussex counties.
At a grants ceremony Thursday, Dec. 10, at the Rookery North in Milford, Next Gen South awarded $5,000 to Delaware Guidance Services for Children and Youth, Inc., and $10,000 to La Esperanza.
Delaware Guidance Services will use its grant to provide individual and group outpatient counseling services to low-income children and families at the first signs of trouble.
La Esperanza will use its grant to provide violence-prevention education in the community through an evidence-based program called Joven Noble, which targets Hispanic boys, 10-17. Its goal is to reduce and prevent community violence, unwanted pregnancies, substance abuse and relationship violence.
