These Three Students Found Success with DCF Scholarships
The Delaware Community Foundation offers 65+ scholarships through a single application. Meet three students whose educational journeys were made possible with DCF support.
Silvana Nasim, Kelly Family Scholarship
As the eldest daughter of immigrant parents, Silvana Nasim graduated from Caesar Rodney High School and attended Princeton University with the help of the four-year renewable Kelly Family Scholarship. She earned a degree in Sociology and is pursuing a role as a pre-doctoral research assistant at Princeton’s Education Research Section. Inspired by her parents, both of whom are teachers, she seeks a career in education.
Maura Grier, Achievement Scholarship for Students with Chronic Illness
Despite facing significant health challenges, including 11 surgeries and conditions like Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and POTS, Maura Grier excelled at Goldey-Beacom College. She maintained a 3.9 GPA, made the President’s List, and advocated for mental health awareness through Active Minds. With support from the DCF’s Achievement Scholarship, she’s now on track to become a Child Life Specialist, proving that health challenges don’t have to be barriers to success.
Osman Baig, Margaret L. Richey Scholarship
Inspired by childhood experiences with his brother’s medical care, Osman Baig dreamed of becoming a doctor. The son of immigrants, he worked hard despite financial challenges and, in 2024, received the Margaret L. Richey Scholarship to study biology at the University of Pennsylvania. The $5,000 award has allowed him to pursue his pre-med studies without private loans. “This scholarship is life-changing,” he said.
