Back to Archive

The Delaware Community Foundation (DCF) invites community members to a special screening of Join or Die, a documentary featuring legendary social scientist Robert Putnam. The event will take place on February 25, 2025, at 2:30 PM at the Cinema Art Theater in Lewes (17701 Dartmouth Dr, Lewes, DE 19958). This screening is free and open to the public.

Join or Die delves into the half-century story of America’s civic unraveling, chronicling the journey of Robert Putnam, whose groundbreaking research in Bowling Alone exposed the decline in community connections across the country. This documentary highlights the importance of social capital—the networks of relationships that foster civic engagement—and how rekindling these connections could be the key to revitalizing democracy.

In this feature documentary, follow the half-century story of America’s civic unraveling through the journey of legendary social scientist Robert Putnam.

Through interviews with influential scholars, politicians, and dedicated activists, Join or Die makes a compelling case for the power of joining clubs and organizations. Whether you’re passionate about civic engagement, interested in strengthening local communities, or simply a fan of insightful documentaries, this film will spark meaningful conversations.

Following the screening, the DCF will lead a community discussion to explore the themes of the film and their relevance to Delaware. This is a great opportunity to reflect on the role of civic participation in shaping a better future and to connect with others who are passionate about strengthening community bonds.
