The Delaware Community Foundation (DCF) has been featured in “The 50 Voices of a Nation,” a four-year, state-by-state journalistic project by The Fulcrum that was launched in 2025 to document American life and civic engagement following the 2024 presidential election. Executive Editor Hugo Balta has been traveling the country, listening to stories of everyday people to understand how national policies impact local communities, with a focus on democracy.

In the Fulcrum’s Delaware episode, DCF staff, including President & CEO Stuart Comstock-Gay, Executive Vice President & Chief of Staff Sarah Hench, and Director of Community Partnerships and Hispanic Initiatives Dr. Jennifer Fuqua, spoke with Balta about Healthy Communities Delaware, the Arsht-Cannon Fund, and other initiatives to support communities across the First State.

“We have a fund called the Arsht-Cannon Fund, which has for [19] years been funding Latino serving organizations in the state of Delaware and really putting on the map that these are our neighbors,” said Stuart Comstock-Gay. “These are people who are creating businesses and going to our schools and really creating communities that are great. And that fund and the people who lead that fund are constantly looking for which are the organizations that are serving people while listening to the community and how can we help them be stronger.”

Balta also spoke with Arsht-Cannon Fund grantee La Esperanza and Healthy Communities Delaware grantee NeighborGood Partners about their strategic approaches to supporting expanding populations and economic development.
