The Delaware Community Foundation (DCF), a top 100 community foundation nationwide and one of the largest charitable organizations in the state, today announced $111,000 in grants to 37 Delaware nonprofits through its Youth Philanthropy Boards (YPBs) in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties. Grantees received recognition at a ceremony for the Sussex board on April 13 at Big Oyster Brewery and for New Castle and Kent boards at CSC Station on April 16.

“We remain incredibly proud of our Youth Philanthropy Boards,” said DCF President and CEO Stuart Comstock-Gay. “Students give their time and energy to improve the lives of others in their communities. We know that students who participate in YPBs in high school go on to lead nonprofits, hold political office, and give back in big and small ways throughout their lives.”

The YPBs are Giving Circles composed of students from public, independent and diocesan high schools. Each YPB makes annual grant recommendations to support impactful projects in their communities. Students develop a focus area, solicit and evaluate proposals, conduct site visits and award grants. Participation connects them to Delaware’s nonprofit community while cultivating skills that foster lifelong philanthropic giving.

“Being a member of the Youth Philanthropy Board of Sussex County means that you get to be part of something that helps your community and its needs,” said YPB Sussex member Nona Wright. “It opens your eyes to things you wouldn’t normally see.”
