Next Gen South Awards Grants to Three Nonprofit Organizations

The Green Beret Project, First State Community Action Agency and Sussex Pride Receive Awards 

The Next Generation – Southern Delaware (Next Gen South), a Delaware Community Foundation-based philanthropic organization directed by young professionals living and working in Kent and Sussex Counties, has awarded $7,000 in grants to three organizations in those counties. 

At a grants ceremony earlier this month at the DCF office in Georgetown, Next Gen South awarded $2,500 each to the Green Beret Project and First State Community Action Agency and $2,000 to Sussex Pride.  

The Green Beret Project, based in Dover, will provide healthy meals to the youth it serves, ensuring they have at least one healthy meal per day. The organization will also provide food for families if it is made aware of a need in a household. 

First State Community Action Agency, located in all three counties, will use its $2,500 grant to combat individual financial barriers such as transportation, hygiene, clothing, childcare, housing, nutrition and basic needs for individuals seeking access to treatment services. 

The grant to Sussex Pride, located in Rehoboth Beach, will support recruiting and training SMART (Self-Management and Recovery Training) Recovery facilitators in Sussex County and the hosting of SMART Recovery meetings.

Next Gen South was created to raise funds and support needs specific to their communities. Its charitable fund was organized in 2012 and awarded its first round of grants in 2013. Since its inception, Next Gen South has awarded more than $100,000 in support of initiatives that address underlying social challenges faced by the most vulnerable Delawareans in the region.
