DCF Awards $295K in Capital & Equipment Grants Statewide
The DCF has awarded a total of $295,392 in 2016 capital/equipment grants to 24 organizations around the state. This year’s recipients are:
2016 Capital Grants (13 grants = $260,392)
ARC of Delaware (Kent) $25,000
To purchase and install a septic system in a group home that houses four women
with physical and developmental disabilities.
CHEER (Sussex) $20,430
For renovations to the Warren L. and Charles C. Allen Jr. CHEER Community Center.
Claymont Community Center (NCC) $25,000
To upgrade the center with new heating and air-conditioning units.
Exceptional Care for Children (NCC) $25,000
To support renovations in facilities for skilled therapy, play therapy and education.
Food Bank of Delaware (Kent/Sussex) $11,500
To repair the loading dock at the Milford facility.
Frederica Senior Center (Kent) $20,000
To expand the center to provide additional space for fitness and recreation programs for seniors.
Friendship House (NCC) $12,745
To upgrade bathrooms in 12 transitional housing units.
Hilltop Lutheran Neighborhood Center (NCC) $20,000
To construct a parking lot to alleviate parking issues for staff and daycare families.
Latin American Community Center (NCC) $22,200
To replace and repair sidewalks, steps and disability ramps at two facilities.
Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth (Sussex) $6,000
To replace the roof on the organization’s office in Lewes.
Planned Parenthood of Delaware (Kent & NCC) $22,517
To upgrade the security systems at the Wilmington, Newark and Dover sites.
Rehoboth Beach Film Society (Sussex) $25,000
To create the brand new RBFS Cinema Art Theater in Lewes.
St. Michael’s School & Nursery (NCC) $25,000
To support replacement of the theater’s roof.

To purchase a laptop workstation and related equipment.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware (Statewide) $2,097
To support the purchase of portable projectors and tablets.
Delaware Humane Association (NCC) $2,500
To purchase stainless steel pet cages.
Delmarva Clergy United in Social Action (Sussex) $5,000
To purchase beds and bedding for DCUSA’s home for boys aging out of foster care.
Friends of Wilmington Parks (NCC) $1,719
For the purchase of a portable audio system to be used for musical events.
Life Center Complex, Inc. (NCC) $7,000
To purchase a fetal monitor/non-stress machine.
Literacy Volunteers Serving Adults (NCC) $1,452
To replace the hot water tank that serves residents at the long-term housing and support
services facility
Rodney Street Tennis and Tutoring Association (NCC) $1,000
To assist in the purchase of laptops for tutoring programs.
Serenity Place (Kent) $5,752
To assist in the purchase of home furnishing and computers for the transitional residence.
Sussex Community Crisis Housing Serves (Sussex) $4,480
To purchase HVAC units for two of its transitional facilities.
Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research (NCC) $2,000
To assist in the purchase of a high-speed color copier.
Since 1989, the Delaware Community Foundation has distributed more than $6.5 million in capital grants. These are funded by the State of Delaware Fund and other funds established by generous individuals and organizations.
Capital grants support projects that have a lasting, positive impact on the population served by the organization. They may be used to fund construction, renovation or repair of buildings, and/or land purchases. Capital grants typically range from $5,000 to $20,000, but can be awarded for up to $25,000. Equipment grants are for the purchase of equipment essential for an organization to provide services, and generally range between $2,000 and $7,000, but can also be awarded for a maximum of $10,000.
