Fred Sears Fund for Community Engagement
In special recognition of retiring President and CEO Fred C. Sears II, the Delaware Community Foundation (DCF) has established a special fund to honor his 13 years of leadership.
At a ceremony on Friday, Dec. 4, 2015, a check for $120,000 was presented to officially open the Fred Sears Community Engagement Fund, a donor advised fund that will enable Fred to direct grants to key community initiatives. The initial donations came primarily from past and present board members.
In making the surprise announcement, Marilyn R. Hayward, Chair of the Board of Directors, said, “Fred has lived, eaten and breathed DCF for well over a decade. His time, energy and creativity have been pivotal in steering an expanded course for DCF, one that represents a more active leadership role and collaboration with the Delaware community.”
Under Sears’s direction, assets under management have more than doubled to more than $270 million, and more than $68 million in grants have been awarded to community organizations.
