Background

The Delaware Community Foundation (DCF) is a nonprofit organization focused on partnering with philanthropists to build opportunity and advance equity in Delaware. Our mission is to strengthen Delaware through community-based philanthropy.

Opportunity

The DCF seeks an innovative, adaptable, and collaborative team member with a passion for communications and marketing work to join our organization as Director of Communications & Marketing.  The individual filling this new position will provide a strategic vision and implementation of robust communications and marketing efforts for DCF and its associated organizations, particularly Healthy Communities Delaware. 

The main objectives of the role include 1) positioning the DCF as the leading voice of philanthropy in Delaware, 2) strengthening meaningful communication with internal and external stakeholders, and 3)  driving inquiry from potential donors and recipients. 

Working on a small team of communications professionals, the Director will be an active participant in the development of the DCF’s annual communications and marketing plans, budget, and calendar, engaging with senior staff to refine and execute messaging.  

The position reports directly to the Vice President of Communications & Marketing and is based in the DCF’s Wilmington headquarters.  DCF staff are currently working in a hybrid in-office/remote model.

Specific Responsibilities Include: 

Communications / Public Relations 

  • A strong storyteller who identifies, writes, and edits media materials and story pitches; Op-Eds, letters to the editor and articles; video scripts and similar. 
  • Develops social media and web content, including copy, video and photography. 
  • Coordinates interviews for digital, broadcast, and print media. 
  • Cultivates and maintains good media relations and an updated media contact list. 
  • Works with outside agencies as needed to handle public relations crises and special projects. 

Marketing / Branding 

  • Manages podcast, including theme development, guest bookings, and cross-marketing.  
  • Plans and directs activities to advertise and promote the DCF, its programs and events. 
  • Manages and oversees the DCF’s brand strategy across all platforms (e.g., website, social media, event materials, collateral) 
  • Oversees marketing, advertising, and production agencies and activities. 
  • Oversees tracking of and reports on social media and website engagement using analytic tools.  
  • Trains as back up for maintaining key areas of the DCF’s website using WordPress. 
  • Provides oversight of collateral, case studies and publications. 
  • Identifies and leverages opportunities to submit DCF work for awards. 
     

Event Support 

  • Oversees all collateral development and marketing materials related to the DCF’s special events, including Building Opportunity, Spring and Winter Receptions, and similar. 
  • Coordinates production, scripts, run-of-show, and production elements for special events. 
  • Available to attend organizational events and/or media visits when needed on occasional evenings and weekends. 

Other 

  • Represents the DCF at industry conferences, events, trainings and programs as appropriate. 

Skills and Competencies: 

  • Five or more years’ experience in communications and/or marketing.  
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with media, public and private sector stakeholders, and the public. 
  • Excellent verbal and short- and long-form written communication skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint), social media platforms (i.e., Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn), and basic understanding of website content management systems (i.e., Word Press) and email campaign programs (e.g., Mail Chimp).  
  • Experience with graphic design programs (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar) is a plus. 

Salary range depends on experience and education: $80,000-$95,000. Benefits include no-cost coverage for employees for health; 100% employer-paid premium for vision and dental insurance; option to add additional family members at a low cost; 403B retirement contribution with 100% vesting on day 1; employer-paid short-term and long-term disability, life insurance; 9 core holidays plus 4 floating holidays; generous paid time off.
